Root Canal Treatment in Indiranagar

Specialist care for complex and failed cases

Dentists across South India refer their most difficult root canals here — teeth with narrow canals, complex anatomy, or previous treatment that has failed. The reason is not a single piece of equipment. It is a microscope-centred protocol followed on every case: rubber dam isolation, evidence-based disinfection, magnified canal location, thermoplastic obturation, and a restoration that seals the tooth afterwards.

Dr. Shylesh Shetty, MDS — micro-endodontist, twenty-seven years — founded The Root Canal Centre in 2009 to institutionalise that workflow. Excellence Dental carries it forward in Indiranagar, on routine molars and referred cases, identically.

The Micro-Endodontist
Behind the Protocol

When a root canal is straightforward, careful treatment matters. When it has already failed, a canal is calcified, or a broken instrument is lodged inside the tooth, the margin for error becomes much smaller.

That is the work Dr. Shylesh Shetty has built his practice around.

Dr. Shylesh Shetty, MDS

Dr. Shylesh Shetty is a specialist endodontist in Bangalore who focuses on microscopic root canal treatment, complex retreatment, endodontic microsurgery, calcified canals, and the removal of fractured instruments.

He began using the operating microscope as the foundation of his endodontic work more than seventeen years ago. His view is straightforward: the microscope is valuable not because it is impressive to look at, but because it allows the endodontist to see and preserve details that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to manage.

In 2009, he founded The Root Canal Centre to institutionalise this approach. In 2016, that work continued at Excellence Dental in Indiranagar, where he establishes the protocol for every root canal — whether it is a routine molar or a complex case referred by another dentist.

He personally evaluates many of the cases referred to the clinic from across South India, particularly failed root canals, unusual anatomy, calcified canals, and teeth with separated instruments. He also works with the endodontic and restorative team so that treatment is planned as one process rather than as a series of disconnected handovers.

“The microscope is not the treatment by itself. It is one part of the combination of knowledge, skill, equipment and discipline that allows us to treat a tooth carefully.”

“Certain root canal procedures — handling teeth with very narrow canals, complex anatomies, and removal of broken instrument fragments — are possible only while using a dental microscope.”

What Decides Whether
a Root Canal Lasts

Root canals fail for a small number of reasons, and most of them are settled before the tooth is closed. None of the three below is about equipment.

01

The first step is not the microscope

Global best practice in endodontics is a short list: a rubber dam on every case, an irrigation protocol that actually disinfects, magnification, a thermoplastic root filling, and a restoration that seals the tooth afterwards. In Dr. Shetty’s assessment, the large majority of root canals done in this country still fall short of it. The rubber dam is the tell — a practice that does not place one on every root canal has not taken the first step, whatever else it owns.

02

Retreatment is a different procedure

Reopening a treated tooth means taking out the old root filling, finding whatever was missed the first time — usually a canal, sometimes a broken instrument — and doing it without perforating a root that has already been drilled once. It is slower than a first root canal, and it is the work dentists across South India send here.

03

The tooth still has to be rebuilt

A root canal is only as good as what is put on top of it. A tooth left in a temporary filling, or closed loosely, lets bacteria back into the canal system that has just been cleaned. Dr. Nidhi Hegde, who carries out most of the root canals here, does that restoration herself — one person’s responsibility, not a handover.

Practical Questions —
Coming to the Indiranagar Clinic

Getting here, being seen, and being seen soon. For how root canal treatment itself works, see the endodontics centre (opens in a new tab).

Where exactly is the clinic in Indiranagar?

Excellence Dental is at 4032, 1st floor, Golden Lights, 100 Feet Rd, above Equitas bank, HAL 2nd Stage, Indiranagar, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560008. The landmark is Equitas Bank — we are on the first floor of the Golden Lights building, directly above it, on 100 Feet Road. Indiranagar Metro station on the Purple Line is a short walk away.

Is there parking?

If you are driving, call the clinic before you set out on +91 96860 39281 and we will tell you where to park on the day. Coming by Metro is usually simpler: Indiranagar station on the Purple Line is a short walk from the clinic.

Can I be seen the same day I call?

Sometimes. Say on the phone that you are in pain and how long it has been going on — that changes how the appointment is scheduled. The clinic runs by appointment, Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM, and you will be told on the call what is possible that day rather than after you arrive.

What do I do if a tooth flares up outside clinic hours?

The clinic is open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM, and is closed on Sunday. If a tooth flares up outside those hours, send a WhatsApp message to +91 96860 39281 describing what is happening so it is waiting when the clinic opens, and call as soon as it does. If you cannot eat or sleep, or swelling is spreading into your face or neck, treat it as urgent and go to a hospital emergency department.

Do I need a referral from my own dentist?

No. Some patients are sent here by their own dentist, particularly for retreatment and for teeth that have already been worked on; others book directly. Either way an appointment is needed — call or WhatsApp +91 96860 39281.

Can I bring X-rays taken at another clinic?

Yes. Bring them with you, or send a photograph of them on WhatsApp before your appointment. If a different view or a scan is needed, it can be taken here.

Which parts of Bangalore do patients come from?

Most are from Indiranagar and HAL 2nd Stage, and regularly from Domlur, Koramangala, CV Raman Nagar and Frazer Town. Dentists across South India also refer complex and previously treated root canal cases here.
