Qualifications
Dr. Pragya Pathak holds an MDS in Periodontics and Oral Implantology — a three-year postgraduate specialist programme focused on gum health, bone biology, and implant dentistry. She brings specialist-level expertise to every implant case at Excellence Dental, ensuring that the foundation of your implant — the bone and gum — is as healthy as the implant itself.
Her treatment philosophy is conservative and patient-first: teeth are preserved whenever possible, and implants are recommended only when they support the patient’s long-term oral health.

The Periodontics
Behind the Implants
Her MDS is in Periodontics — the gums and the bone that support teeth. It sits naturally alongside implant work: the two disciplines answer different halves of the same question, and holding both changes how a case is planned.
An implant is anchored by bone and sealed by the gum around it. That seal has no periodontal ligament behind it the way a natural tooth does, so it is less defended — and its thickness and stability are a large part of what decides whether an implant is still healthy many years later. Assessing and grafting that tissue takes an extra step that is easy to leave out, because an implant placed without it still looks fine the day the crown goes on.
Dr. Pragya has trained specifically in soft-tissue management around teeth and implants with Dr. Ricardo Kern, and applies it as part of implant planning rather than as a repair later.
She is also the clinic's lead periodontist. She assesses gum and bone health across the practice, leads the complex periodontal work — periodontal plastic surgery, gum recession root coverage and connective tissue grafting — and works alongside Dr. Ruthali Kamat, the practice's specialist periodontist, on periodontal care day to day.
